Steps

  1. Pick a topic. Often this will be decided for you, but if not, try to choose something you're interested in. It will make the essay easier to write.
  2. Gather your information. Your essay can't go anywhere if there are no true or interesting facts.
  3. Plan your essay before starting. Use an outline to organize your research and writing by headings and sub-headings. But, do not include headings and sub-headings in your actual essay; it should be free flowing. Research reports, however, may have sections or sub-headings.
  4. Start with introducing your topic and explaining what it is going to be about. Do not use stylistically weak, hackneyed expressions such as, “This essay is about...”, or “The topic of this essay is...”. They are considered poor style, dull and boring. Never, ever state, “I will now show that
  5. Assume your reader knows nothing about the topic. (Assume your audience is, more or less, ignorant). Comprehensively explain all ideas that are not common knowledge. Do not get bogged down in writing excessive background information or otherwise ramble off topic; it is considered essay ‘padding’.
  6. Make the body 3 paragraphs. In the first one, you say your strongest point, argument, or opinion, etc.
    • The second paragraph should be a little bit less broad. It should include small details, not so strong opinion, argument, or point, etc.
    • The third paragraph should be make your final points emphatically.
  7. Conclude your essay. Explain what you just wrote. Example: That was my essay on _____________. and expand a little on it. And wrap it up! Make sure your conclusions are based on evidence--thesis support - provided in your essay. Never introduce new arguments in the conclusion; you should summarize the hypotheses already presented and, perhaps, leave the reader with a thought-provoking idea or quotation.
  8. After you've written your first draft, read through your essay from start to finish to see how your essay flows. For now, don't worry about typos or grammatical errors; underline them so you can go back and fix them later.
  9. Rewrite your introduction after you have finished writing your essay. Sometimes the paper you write is not the essay you originally planned. It is difficult to accomplish all that one sets out to in a research paper. So, make revisions to the introduction and tailor it to the essay you did write. Some people leave writing the introduction to the end, which is a good idea.
  10. Make a title page and number pages from p.2 onwards. Standard title pages should include your essay title and the following: Essay presented to (name of teacher)for the course (course code and title) by (your name )at (name of school) on (date).

Things You'll Need

  • Paper, pencil, eraser, etc. or computer, paper, printer, etc.
  • thesaurus, dictionary (optional).

How to Get Rid of Ants

photo
Ants in the house, I think we've all had them every now and then and want to get rid of them as naturally as possible. Here's how, just follow these steps. One here and there but then again there are the persistent crawlers that seem to like your home and have invited all their friends to come along to the party and now they don't want to leave.

Steps

Steps

  1. Getting rid of ants in the house can really be an easy and quick task. Some of the best ways to get rid of ants are natural home remedies that are safe for your children and pets. Some can easily be found in your kitchen cabinet.
  2. Knowing what attracts Ants can help get rid of ants. Plain and simple - food, sweet or greasy food or any type of food!. Ants have a great sense of smell.
  3. Keep all attracting substances. such as sugar and sweets or grease, covered tightly. Even the smallest of crumbs can attract our crawling friends.
  4. Now I am no Clorox Queen by any means but keeping your home free from crumbs, spills and sticky messes will prevent ants from wanting to come and visit.
    • Keep your kitchen clean, bleach or citrus works well.
    • Don't leave dirty dishes in the sink, wash all dishes.
    • Make sure that you wipe all surfaces and sweep all crumbs to prevent ants.
    • Keep floor clean and mop often.
    • Clean up the little one's messes.
    • Keep pet food covered.
    • Take the trash out promptly and as often as possible.
    • Try to place your trash cans and recycling bins as far away from the house as possible.
    • Make sure that your window and door stripping is in good working order.
  5. Ants don't like lemons, yes there are things that ants do Not like. Pepper, Cinnamon and Cayenne Pepper. Mix lemon use and water, half and half. You can mix this right in a spray bottle. Spray where you see ants and at entrance way or where they are entering your home. You can use indoors and outdoors.
  6. There are some great home remedies to get rid of ants right in your kitchen cabinets. I used these ingredients when my neighbors cat used my vegetable garden as a litter box. So it is safe for pets.
  7. Ants don't like the scent of Cayenne pepper, black pepper, and cinnamon. and you can easily use these to get rid of ants in your home. Just spread some on the ants and you will see them scurrying away. Spread some on your pantry shelves to keep ants away. Another no no for our friendly ants is vinegar. I use vinegar to clean my hardwood floors, maybe that's why I hardly ever get ants. A dual purpose. Bay Leaves are another deterrent for ants, just leave some on your kitchen counter. There are a couple of ways you can use these ingredients. Mix with water and spray the outside of your home along the perimeter and where you see ants entering. Simply create a line with the spice, remember ants like to travel in lines, make the line long enough so the ants can't go around it.
  8. You would think that you shouldn't be feeding your crawling friends. But there are some foods that are lethal to ants. Cornmeal and Grits are one of those foods. Spread a little dry Cornmeal or Grits where you see ants. Once the ants feast on it, it will expand inside their mighty bodies and eliminate them. This method is effective inside or outside. Outside you spread the Cornmeal or Grits around the anthill.

How to Study During Engineering So That You Pass in Exams

So, you entered the college and have got that coveted seat of your choice. But, a nasty surprise awaits you guys; this is the beginning of a nightmare, where many falter, fail a year or two, or even leave the college, unable to cope.

  1. Study During Engineering So That You Pass in Exams Step 1.jpg
    1
Buy the books early on. It helps if you do so, books are cheaper early on, and you are at least aware of the topics.
  2. Study During Engineering So That You Pass in Exams Step 2.jpg
    2
Have a careful look at the subjects. Check out the subjects which appear tougher and lengthier. Make a clear assessment of which subjects can be done within 5-6 days during the PL( preparation leave).
  3. Study During Engineering So That You Pass in Exams Step 3.jpg
    3
Tackle the tough ones first, remember that way you can try to understand what is in the subject. From my own experience, the tough ones require more time to understand, but sometimes they are worth the effort.
  4. Study During Engineering So That You Pass in Exams Step 4.jpg
    4
Do not think that you can get away with passing 3-4 subjects per semester.Once you get into the vicious circle of backlogs, it gets very tough to come out of it.
  5. 5
Remember that all of the subjects are important. Of course, this is obvious. But, people sometimes devote too much time to one subject, leaving others out. E.g. Mechanics, maths etc. It is a wrong strategy. Giving too little time or too much time are equally bad.
  6. Study During Engineering So That You Pass in Exams Step 6.jpg
    6
Try to do 1-2 units of at least 3 subjects before PL start. Believe me, the pressure in PL is enormous. You can't do all the subjects brand-new during PL. After all,PL are maximum one month.
  7. Study During Engineering So That You Pass in Exams Step 7.jpg
    7
Lastly, have self confidence. There is a thin line of difference between 55% and 60%. With a little more hard work, anybody can do it

How to Read Engineering Drawings

Engineering drawings are typically used as visual tools in the creation of homes, bridges, and other buildings. While these drawings can be quite straightforward to individuals who are skilled in the field of engineering or architecture, they can be quite difficult to interpret for laypeople. Knowing how to read engineering drawings will help provide you with a better idea of the building plans.

  1. Read Engineering Drawings Step 1.jpg
    1
Familiarize yourself with the scale of the drawings.
    • Understanding how large or small certain items are essential when reading engineering drawings. While most engineering drawings are created in "scale" versions of 1/4-1/8 inches (.55-.275 centimeters) per foot, other scales may be used for very large creations. Always determine the scale of the drawing before examining it in detail. If the scale is not obviously evident on the drawing, consult with the engineer who drew it for clarification.
  2. Read Engineering Drawings Step 2.jpg
    2
Understand the basic symbols used in the engineering drawings.
    • As these drawings are done on such a small scale, the use of symbols is often required. While many symbols exist, understanding a few of the basics can be very helpful when reading engineering drawings. Some of the most common symbols used in these drawings include rectangles, circles, and triangles. As with determining the scale, consulting with the engineer who created the drawing can provide great insight as to the symbols used.
  3. Read Engineering Drawings Step 3.jpg
    3
    Look for circled numbers.
    • As discussed previously, engineering drawings are typically done on a scale so small that creating detail is almost impossible. Because of this, engineers often add circled numbers to certain parts of the drawings. These circled numbers indicate that the area identified is shown in greater detail on another page.
  4. Read Engineering Drawings Step 4.jpg
    4
    Identify specific abbreviations.
    • Abbreviations are a useful tool for engineers. Like symbols, they can indicate shapes, processes, and even dimensions through a few letters. Some of the most common abbreviations used in engineering drawings include DP, which stands for depth, and DIA, which stands for diameter.
  5. 5
    Work with colleagues.
    • When all else fails, consult with other professionals to better clarify the drawings. While it may be embarrassing to admit that you are having difficulty interpreting the drawing, those who regularly work with and understand the drawings will help you read them. Ask "in the know" individuals on the project to clarify anything you do not understand; better that this happens in the early stages of a project than to encounter a mistake farther into a project because of improperly reading engineering drawings.
